Air in my pipes

Checking for blockages in the Lancia Fuel Lines

Its been a few weeks since my last post and it was back to work on the car.

We last left the car having extensively tested the fuel system and concluding that no fuel was reaching the carburettor from the petrol tank despite me having added a good amount of fresh fuel to the tank.

Having consulted the Lancia gurus at betaboyz they recommended that I check the fuel lines for blockages at the petrol tank. The gurus also advised where the fuel line connections were for the tank and they were in the boot under a rubber cover.

Having located the connections they were very rusty and I am sure that the major leak I had in my garage roof only exacerbated the expected dreaded rust on a car that is more than 40 years old. A very generous dose of WD40 was applied to the area and the area cleaned.

I managed to removed the fuel pipes which were quite fragile and blew air through the lines checking at the end of the hard lines in the engine bay. Air was flowing OK so I concluded that the lines were functional.

The next step will be to check the intake pipes on the fuel sender in the tank for blockage.

Looking online it seems that there is a mesh attached in place to stop any rust particles from tank entering the fuel lines and I am advised that this mesh can become blocked. I will therefore be removing the fuel sender and checking it , hopefully it will be a simple case of unblocking the mesh and then fuel will flow.

I am planning to get some rubber sheet that I can use to make a gasket with as I am pretty sure that if there is a rubber seal on the fuel sender when I disturb it it will fall apart as the seal on the cover did.

Thanks to the betaboyz as always for the invaluable guidance.

Till next time.
