After repairing the leaky roof in Brum I was ready to get back to working on the Lancia. What was needed was a dose of motivation and that came from a visit to the Classic Car Show 2024 at the NEC.
I had not been to the Classic Car Show in many years and so Al and I decided to head down to the NEC. I was surprised at the price of the tickets which had increased significantly since my last visit as well as the parking costs but we managed to ease the shock and pain by paying in advance for both our tickets and parking.
We saw some stunning cars and both Al and I had our favourites on the day. What stood out was that there were quite a few modern cars that I would not necessarily classify as a classic due to their still tender age but I am sure that it would have helped to cater to the new younger crowd.
There was a great range of classics and we also visited the Lancia stand. We took some time to admire the finished Lancia Beta Spyder Series 1 that was on the stand, she was gorgeous. I also picked the brains of the Lancia club members on the stand with regard to my ongoing ignition issues so we have some clear items to check next time .
In light of the delays I have encountered my revised plan is to endeavour to get the car running before Christmas so we will be focussed on resolving the seemingly intermittent ignition issues .
The other stand that caught my eye was the Japanese classic car stand and the car for me of the show was here. The car pictured was stunning and the I loved the colour.
I took a few hundred pictures and there are too many to show here but all in all Al and I got home having navigated more than 12,500 steps that day .
I would thoroughly recommend the show, it is a shame that it has become so pricey as there was an absence of families that would usually attend the show. The other thing that did surprise me was some of the prices I saw on car themed book stores, some of the stalls were extortionate!
While we enjoyed the show I am not sure I would go each year, maybe every couple of years.
We are now back to working on the Lancia Beta Spyder with our motivation suitably topped up !
